How to and What is Search Engine Optimization
Search Engine Optimization | (SEO) is the process of improving the volume or quality of traffic to a web site from search engines via “natural” (“organic” or “algorithmic”) search results. Typically, the earlier a site appears in the search results list, the more visitors it will receive from the search engine. SEO may target different kinds of search, including image search, local search, and industry-specific vertical search engines. This gives a website web presence.
As an Internet marketing strategy, SEO considers how search engines work and what people search for. Optimizing a website primarily involves editing its content and HTML and associated coding to both increase its relevance to specific keywords and to remove barriers to the indexing activities of search engines.

ON SITE SEO
The Importance of Keywords
The Best, cheapest and often the most effective way to market your website is through a search engine. So if you don’t have a big advertisement budget, listen! Like any other marketing strategy you primarily have to define your target group. That is your market niche. A group of people that simply might find your website useful. You then have to figure out what kind of keywords to optimize; what key phrases your target group might be using when searching for information on the Internet. If you sell flowers your target group might use keywords such as, hibiscus, roses or bouquet. Ask around, talk to people for suggestions of keywords. Remember, sometimes it can be valuable to implement misspelled key phrases on your web page. This may result in higher ranking in the search engine if somebody types in a keyword incorrectly. E.g folwers instead of flowers.
While contesting for high rankings in the search engine you should always start with what is called ON SITE SEO. When you build your website in a correct and optimized way, you give the search engine the best possible chance of seeing what your site is all about. This is an article in the ON SITE SEO series and focuses mainly on the importance of keywords.
Don’t Do Messy Work
There are several ways to go about when designing your website. And if you’re new to it chances are pretty high that you’ll find a ready -made solution on the web. Stop right there. The importance of a correct and well-written code cannot be stressed enough. The website might look great on the outside, but if the code doesn’t contain all the right information in the proper order it will only make it harder for e.g. Google (Search Engine) to scan it, categorize it and rank it.
The final step is then to implement selected keywords into your webpage content. Next you will find a list of places where you should implement your keywords.
Body text – make sure that the keywords are included in the body text. Though it’s important that they don’t occur too often. The search engine might define the content as spammed, banning your web page, if the keyword appears in every second sentence.
Meta Description and Keywords – this is an important source for the search engine to gather information about your web page. The more time and effort you spend on formulating a good meta description the better. It will not be time lost.
Headers, URL, Title Tag, Alt Tags – do not use the same keyword in all contexts. Your creativity and language skill will be tested, we know! This is vital to avoid being penalized by the search engine.
By figuring out different keywords that people might use when using Google to search the web you’ve come a long way. But keywords are in the end only words. It’s when words form into meaningful sentences, articles, tips and information you can expect increased traffic to you website.
